Hello, and welcome.
I am Jinha Kim, a fine artist based in Los Angeles, CA. I work primarily in oil, painting on linen canvases and hardboards. I was initially drawn to oil painting because many of the artists I admired worked in the medium, and over time I came to appreciate its durability, flexibility, and luminous qualities.
I paint from real objects, people, and events, grounding my work in lived experience while leaving room for interpretation beyond the literal. I am interested in the fleeting moments that often pass unnoticed: a glance, a memory, a desire, a question, or a quiet encounter with beauty. Through painting, I try to give these moments a place to linger.
At the heart of my work is a search for connection. I am fascinated by how color, light, form, and texture can evoke emotion, memory, and reflection. I hope each painting becomes a conversation between the viewer and the subject, and perhaps between the viewer and themselves.
My path to becoming an artist has not been a conventional one. I studied physics at Caltech and Harvard before building careers in digital media technology and water treatment automation. Although these fields seem distant from painting, they taught me the value of observation, curiosity, discipline, and problem-solving, qualities that continue to shape my artistic practice today.
Life remains my greatest source of inspiration. Relationships, joy, loss, wonder, and everyday experiences all find their way into my work. Through painting, I hope to create images that are both personal and universal while leaving space for individual interpretation.
Thank you for visiting my gallery. I invite you to spend some time with the work and see what questions, memories, or connections it may awaken in you.
